Report by Odisha Diary bureau, Joda: The OMQ (Ore Mines & Quarries) Division of Tata Steel celebrated International Women`s Day on March 8, 2017 at Joda and Noamundi with theme of the year ‘Be Bold for Change’. The day was celebrated with much fervour at different places like Ansaikela, Padapahar and Dudhvilla, Khondbond by Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) and at Joda Valley Club by women employees group ‘Ekta’ of Tata Steel.
In a programme held at Joda Valley Club, women employees of Tata Steel gathered to celebrate the occasion with series of cultural performances, guest lectures and other programmes. Mr Pankaj Satija, General Manager (OMQ), graced the occasion as chief guest in both the programmes at Joda and Khondbond. In his address, Mr Satija praised the contribution of women employees, specifically women working in shop floor in Tata Steel and cited several examples of women achievers in the world.
The programme at Joda Valley Club began with the formal inauguration by lighting the lamp by Mr Mukesh Ranjan , Chief, Joda, Tata Steel, Mr Shirish Shekhar, Chief, Khondbond Project, Tata Steel, Mr Pravin Srivastava, Chief Raw Material Project, Ms Chandana Pradhan, National level athlete, and Ms Mussarat Iqbal, renowned social worker from Jamshedpur. This was followed by a cake cutting ceremony. Ms Parul Patawari, IPS, Keonjhar also joined on this occasion and inspired all women to touch great heights in their career. Fashion show, odissi dance, skit and contests like “Speak your mind” and “Best Personality Contest” are the key highlights of the day. Girl students of Residential Bridge Course were also felicitated on the occasion. Total 180 women employees of OMQ Division participated in this celebration.
The programme at Khondbond saw participation of 500 rural women. The main focus was to create awareness on health, hygiene, nutrition and importance of education in the life of women. To make the event more engaging and interesting dance competition, food fest and games were organised among these rural women.
Women of Padapahar and Dudhvilla villages were also made aware of the significance of the day. TSRDS brought together women in these remote villagers and helped them in celebrating the day. Among those present on various occasions were Mr Pankaj Satija, GM (OMQ), Tata Steel, Mr R P Mali, Chief, Noamundi, Tata Steel, Mr P K Dhall, Chief Engineering & Projects, Tata Steel, Senior officials of the company and TSRDS officials.
