SBI Life Insurance steps in to make ‘Cataract Blind Free Sambalpur’ project, accessible to the underprivileged sections of the society

Bhubaneswar: SBI Life Insurance, one of the most trusted private life insurers in India, extended support to Trilochan Netralaya – a unit of Vision India Foundation for a project named “Cataract Blind Free Sambalpur” which aims at eradication of preventable blindness and provision of qualitative eye care services for the underprivileged sections of society. In order to make, institutional eye care facilities accessible to everyone in the deeper pockets of Sambalpur district, SBI Life Insurance donated a 40-seater bus to facilitate eye screening and transfer of patients to nearby hospitals. The initiative undertaken as part of company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program will benefit more than 7500 needy people every year.

Mr. Mahesh Kumar Sharma, MD & CEO, SBI Life Insurance handed over the bus keys to Dr. Shiva Prasad Sahoo, Founder & Director, Trilochan Netralaya in presence of Ms. Ruma Dey, CGM- SBI, Mr. Ravindra Kumar, President-Zone III, SBI Life Insurance, and Mr. Amit Kumar Saha, Regional Director- Bhubaneswar, SBI Life Insurance along with other respected dignitaries.

Speaking on boosting accessibility to institutional eye care facilities for the underserved sections in the deeper pockets of Sambalpur district, Mr. Mahesh Kumar Sharma, MD & CEO, SBI Life Insurance said, “Cataract blindness is a serious concern that the people of Odisha have been facing due to lack of awareness towards curable measures and accessibility of basic medical amenities. As a responsible corporate citizen, we constantly endeavour to enhance the lives of the communities we serve and we are confident that this initiative will go a long way to provide a better standard of living for residents of Sambalpur. He further added, “We are pleased to align with the Government’s initiative- ‘National Program For Control of Blindness (NPCB)’ for eliminating cataract blindness and providing qualitative eye care services to the needy in the state of Odisha. Through this contribution, we hope that thousands of people in the state will be benefitted and basic eye care amenities will be accessible to the underprivileged section of the society. We would like to thank ‘Vision India Foundation’ for providing us the opportunity to contribute towards this noble cause to support the disadvantaged.”

Restoration of sight will make them economically productive once again, an act which is the best form of CSR activity in our contemporary society and in a geographical area like western Odisha”.
