Bhubaneswar: The recent mobile subscriber data published by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for December 2018 has revealed that Reliance Jio was the only telecom service provider to have net addition of new customers in Odisha while all others witnessed a decline in subscriber numbers in this month. As per the report Reliance Jio added 3.13 lakh customers in December 2018 while Vodafone Idea lost over 1.77 lakhs subscribers followed by decline of 41406 subscribers of Bharti Airtel. This month also saw Tata Teleservices which is in the process of merging with Bharti Airtel losing 36,189 subscribers followed by BSNL, which lost 18,133 mobile subscribers in December.
However, on overall numbers Odisha witnessed an increase of nearly 40,000 mobile subscribers in December 2018, the report adds. The total mobile subscriber base in Odisha as on 31st December 2018 gone above 3.31 crores, the report said. In terms of subscriber market share as on December 2018, Bharti Airtel marginally slipped to 39.6% followed by a closeting Reliance Jio with 24.4%, Vodafone Idea 17.8%, BSNL 16.7% and Tata Tele at 1.6%.
Worth mentioning that Reliance Jio has been leading new subscriber additions in Odisha in all months of 2018 in Odisha almost doubling its subscriber market share (CMS) to 24.4% with over 80 lakh subscribers in the state from a CMS of 12.5% and nearly 42 lakhs subscribers at the beginning of the year.
Nationally, Reliance Jio also led the new mobile subscriber additions in December 2018 by adding around 85.64 lakh subscribers across the country, the highest among all the telecom service providers. Among others only BSNL added subscribers with nearly 5.5 lakh net additions in December while all others witnessed decline in overall subscribers. As on December 31, 2018, the subscriber base of Jio has crossed 28 crores, as per data released by TRAI.
