New Delhi: Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) has been conferred ‘The FICCI CSR Award’ for Women Empowerment at 17th Edition of FICCI CSR Summit and Awards held at New Delhi today. JSPL won this prestigious award for its innovative and high impact women empowerment programmes, implemented by the Company’s CSR Arm JSPL Foundation, across its operational areas in India. Director, JSPL and the Co-Chairperson of JSPL Foundation Smt. Shallu Jindal received the award from Honorable Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation Shri Suresh Prabhu at a glittering function held in Delhi today.
Upon receiving the Award Smt Shallu Jindal, said ” I am thrilled for the prestigious FICCI CSR award on Women Empowerment awarded to JSPL. JSPL has been selected for this award after successfully completing 3-tier selection-process, which includes on site assessment by the independent assessors and Independent Jury Round. The Jury comprised of eminent personalities comprising of Heads of highly reputed Development Institutions and was chaired by Mr. Ajay Shankar, Former Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP).
As the CSR Arm of Jindal Steel & Power, the JSPL Foundation has been executing multidimensional development programmes in the areas of health, education, skill building, livelihood promotion and sports, enhancing the Quality of Life of more than 6.4 lakh women on sustainable basis in Angul, Keonjhar and Sundergarh districts of Odisha, Ramgarh and West Singhbhum districts of Jharkhand and Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh and other parts of India .
JSPL’s Flagship programme ‘Kishori Express’ programmes has been highly successful in controlling anemia among 50000 adolescent girls in Angul District of Odisha and is set to be replicated in in Nuh district of Haryana under the ‘Transformation of Aspirational Districts’
Programme of Government of India. Mother and Child Health focused programme ‘Vatsalya’ achieved 100% immunization, 100% pregnancy registration, 99% prenatal care (PNC), 100% antenatal care (ANC) and 95% Institutional delivery in 61 Revenue villages where it is being implemented . JSPL Foundation has equipped about 5000 women with necessary backward and forward linkages, who are now running 1170 micro enterprises across these states and generating sizable supplementary income on sustainable basis. Besides, it runs five OP Jindal Community Colleges, which are contributing customized skill development of women in these States resulting in their socio –economic empowerment. JSPL Foundation also lays high focus on providing Scholarship to meritorious Girl Students and promoting Sports for rural girls.
FICCI CSR Award is India’s first Corporate Social Responsibility award at the National level , instituted in 1999. The aim of the award is to identify and recognize the efforts of companies in integrating and internalizing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
