Bhubaneswar: Today morning Orissa Krushak Samaj, a leading farmers organisation of the state observed Akshayatrutiya- an auspicious festival of farmers called Farmers Day. On this occasion, a function was arranged by Orissa Krushak Samaj in association of Nilachal Krushak Mahasangha of Puri Dist. in Kanas Block.
The function started with sowing of paddy in a field along with ploughing by the leading farmers after observing a Puja.
Sri Gopinath Mishra, Prsident of Nilachal Krushak Mahasangha presided over this meeting which was attended by more than 500 farmers from Puri dist. Dr Purna Chandra Mohanty, Chairman of Orissa Krushak Samaj & Vice Chairman of Bharat Krushak Samaj attended as Chief Guest. Dr Santosh Kumar Rout, former Dean – Agril. Extention- OUAT, attended as Technical advisor of Orissa Krushak Samaj. Sri Guru Prasad Mohanty,Sr.Advocate , Odisha High Court & President Naba Jiban Sangha also attended as Guest speaker. In this agricultural festival Scientists from Krushi Vigyan Kendra Puri & Central Institute of Women in Agriculture (CIWA), Bhubaneswar also participated as Guest Speakers and addressed the farmers. 11 nos.of leading farmers ofPuri dist. were awarded for their outstanding contributions in the field of farming At the end Sri BK Sahoo, Co-ordinator of Orissa Krushak Samaj greeted the farmers for this great festival & extended vote of thanks to all..
On this occasion, a free medical check up Camp from SSB Hospital & an Animal health check up on behalf of Govt. of Odisha was also arranged for the benefit of rural farmers.
