For the first time, the Perseverance Mars Rover Mission has used Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Mars to make autonomous decisions based on real-time analysis of rock composition, according to NASA officials. Although the mission has employed AI for nearly three years to autonomously identify minerals within Martian rocks, this marks the first instance of using the technology to make real-time decisions about rock composition on the Red Planet.
