Bhubaneswar: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) celebrated its 68th foundation day on July 1st, 2017. History was made on this day as the national dream of ‘One Nation One Tax’ in the form of Goods and Services Tax (GST) got implemented in India coinciding with the foundation day of ICAI. To make the day a memorable one, various activities and programs were organised.
The celebrations started in the morning as a mini marathon named ‘go green’ was organised from the ICAI premises to Kalinga stadium and then returning back. Followed by the marathon, a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was held at the adjacent areas of the institute along with the flag hoisting. Not only this a Blood donation camp in association with AMA Odisha and a tree plantation programme were also organized.
In the Evening the Branch organised a Panel discussion in which Shri Jual Oram, Hon’ble Minister of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India, Dr. (Prof.) Prasanna Kumar Patasani, Member of Parliament, Shri Sashi Bhusan Behera, Hon’ble Finance Minister of Odisha, Sri Priyadarshi Mishra, MLA, CA. Saroj Kumar Samal, MLA, Dhenkanal were the guest of honour. The Institute also took the opportunity to felicitate the dignitaries for their contribution to the profession and society at large. To make GST transactions trouble-free for the people, Sailotech, a Visakhapatnam based Software Company participated in the program and demonstrated about its new platform named XatTax, which will ensure a GST ready eco-system and provide 100% safe and secured transactions.
In the panel discussion different industry experts from their respective fields including Shri Saswat Mishra, IAS, Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Odisha, Shri Dillip Satapathy, Resident Editor, Business Standard, Bhubaneswar, Rashmi Ranjan Mishra, Chairman, Bhubaneswar Branch, CA Sugyan Kumar Sahoo, Secretary, Bhubaneswar Branch, past chairman CA Rajib Sekhar Sahoo, CA Arun Kumar Sabat and other eminent Chartered Accountants deliberated on the various aspects of GST and enlightened the gathering.
A Nationwide telecast of address by Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India at New Delhi was made live on this historic occasion of GST rollout and launch of New Syllabus of Chartered Accountancy course.
