Report by Nishapati Nayak; Sunabeda: On the eve of the 157th birthday of Bharat Ratna Sri M Visvesvaraya wa observed by The Institution of Engineers (India) was observed at Sunabeda Bhanja Mandap, Koraput. The program commenced with the introduction of guests by The Institution of Engineers Sunabeda Local centre associates.
The program followed with Gaarlanding the portrait of Bharat Ratna Sri M Visvesvaraya by the Chief Guest Er. P Jayapal Chief Executive (Airworthiness), CEMILAC. Sir MV had demonstrated his flair towards engineering & nation building. In 1884, he graduated from Poona College of Engineering with flying colors. In fact, he stood first in the University Examinations, and as was the norm for toppers those days, he was directly recruited (without any interview) by Govt of Bombay and appointed as Assistant Engineer in Public Works Department. The following excerpt is the very first paragraph from his autobiography “Memories of my working life”, Er. Jayapal added. Welcome address was delivered by the Chair, Er. J M Shau General Manger SED, and produced a brief theme on the life of of Sri. Sri M Visvesvaraya. Er. G P Dash the honorary secretary delivered the brief not on IEI.
The said program was followed with the address by the guests on dais Er. Asutosh Mallick, General Manager ED, HAL; Er. D K Mohanty ED NALCO, Er. Debasis Deb ED HAL Koraput. A release of quarterly news letter of IEI was addressed by the Guest of Honor Er. J M Sahu, Er. G P dash and Er. (Dr.) Srikanta Pattnaik Professor ITER SOA University.
A release of Souvenir on the eve of engineers’ day was done by the Chief Guest Er. P Jayapal followed with the address on engineers. A prize distribution for the competitors on the theme of engineers day with felicitation to Eminent Engineers to young Innovators. Atlast the program concluded with the vote of thanks by Er. Sunil Kumar Biswal Convener Engineers Day.
