Bhubaanewar: 9th Edition of Odisha Environment Congress (OEC) to be held on 20th and 21st of December, 2018, at Regional Museum of Natural History, Bhubaneswar. This year the theme of the OEC is “Environment and Gandhi”, as a tribute to the Father of the Nation on his 150th Birth Anniversary. The organisers of the OEC 2018 are Human Development Foundation (HDF-cDAR), Centre for Environment and Development (CED), Thiruventhapuram, Sikhya ‘O’ Anusandhan University, Bhubaneswar, Xavier University Bhuaneswar and Odisha Environment Society (OES), Bhubaneswar.
Odisha Environment Congress (OEC), the annual scientific and civil society platform on environment, has been providing a unique opportunity to academicians, researchers, scientists, planners, policy makers, students and practitioners for learning, interacting, and disseminating knowledge amongst various stakeholders on different themes around environment. The themes of last 7 years were “Environment & Water Resources” in 2010, “Environment & Forest” in 2011, “Environment & Energy” in 2012, “Environment & Agriculture” in 2013, “Environment & Climate Change” in 2014, “Environment: Health and Nutrition” in 2015, “Environment: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)” in the year 2016 and “Environment and Sustainable River Basin Management” in 2017.
There are 38 papers on the focal theme of this year, “Environment and Gandhi”, compiled and published as the Conference Proceedings and the same will be released on the Inaugural Session. The OEC 2018 will be inaugurated by Padmashree Bhabani Charan Patnaik, a Noted Gandhian and Freedom Fighter in presence of Honorable Finance and Excise Minister, GoO Sj Sashi Bhusan Behera and Mr Satya Narayan Sahu, Eminent Gandhian Scolar as Chief Speaker. In the valedictory session Shri Niranjan Pattnaik President Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee will be Chief Guest and other Honorable Guests include Mrs. Krishna Mohanty Noted Gandhian, Prof. Radha Mohan Noted Environmentalist etc.
Like previous years, Odisha Children’s Environment Congress on 21st December, parallel to the main OEC, in collaboration with Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB) to take the theme in to the domain of young minds, specially the students. The Odisha Children’s Environment Congress (OCEC) will be hosted by XUB at their campus at Nijigada, Haripur, Puri (Near to Odisha Engineering College). There will be different activities like painting, debate, song and essay writing among the participants on the theme during the Children’s Congress.
