Ganjam: A one-day workshop on Corn cultivation and its allied practices was held on 8th of July,2018 at Takarda village of Buguda Block in Ganjam District of Odisha. Krushaco- An Agritech start up from Odisha who is working in the agricultural sector has taken this step to educate and train farmers with latest farming practices and deal with difficulties during their crop cycle in corn cultivation.
Dr. Debraj Lenka,Senior Scientist( Maize specialist) from OUAT has addressed the gathering of farmers from five different villages of GP- Bhagwanpur, matajhari, Panikesara etc regarding the current problems faced by corn cultivators and solutions to this.
These villages have a huge potential and have been doing corn cultivation since years but this was the very first time when somebody from a senior level went to the village and spent time in the field. Dr. Lenka also shared some valuable inputs to tackle with losses and risks, he explained the ways they can reutilize the corn as both sweet corn and baby corn. More than 60 farmers attended the workshop and were highly influenced by the words of Dr. Lenka.
Unlike other workshops, this was a highly interactive session between the Krushaco Team and Farmers. They were shown videos and pictures along with case studies of “How Corn cultivator badly failed in Umarkot” which helped them to understand and relate to their problems.
Dr. Lenka also mentioned that corn cultivation is a highly risky crop, and every farmer needs to have a scientific approach to improve its production and generate more income.
Dr. Lenka and Krushaco Team visited some of the fields and suggested protection measures to the exising diseases.
Krushaco is a startup from Odisha which was founded by Bibhu Prusty(25) and Asit mohanty(20) who are working in providing correct information techniques and efficiencies to farmers both for pre harvest application and post harvest cases. They take the experts to the village and also support farmer’s queries through mobile application, WhatsApp and phone calls. They help farmers to gain economies of scale and work in areas like how to increase crop production, and advise farmers on right varieties and quantity of inputs and market oriented approach in farming.
