Bhubaneswar: World Environment Day was celebrated at Jilling Langalota Iron & Manganese Mines of Essel Mining & Industries Limited on 5th June 2019. The theme for the event which was hosted by China this year was “Beat Air Pollution”, which was a call to action for all of us to come together to combat one of the great environmental challenges of our time.
The Senior President-cum-Unit Head of Iron Ore Unit of Aditya Birla Group Shri Prasanna Kumar Panda and Joint President (Operation) Shri V. Srikanth attended the program as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. The Head of Geology Department Dr. Khageswar Mahanta led the smooth conductance of the event. About 150 saplings were planted by officers and staffs of Jilling Mines in its ‘D’ Block and nursery near Drivers’ barrack.
500 fruit bearing trees were distributed amongst local villagers nearby too. Various competitions on the topic of the theme of this year’s World Environment Day celebration i.e. “Beat Air Pollution” were held in different categories like Quiz & Drawing competitions in between children of Essel Mining Colony and EMIL DAV School scholars, Slogan competition in between Essel Ladies Club Members etc. The winners were awarded in the eve meeting of the celebration. Chief Guest Shri Panda and Guest of Honour Shri Srikanth delivered inspirational speeches regarding motto of celebration of the event, causes of Air Pollution and its Control Measures, how to start action on our own to beat the air pollution by doing small things which ultimately will do the job when performed by all etc. All senior officers, departmental employees, contractual staffs, colony residents were present in the successful observance of the event.
