Bhubanneswar: Health and wellbeing of its people and peripheral communities has always been the core development agenda of Utkal Alumina International Ltd. (UAIL). In its continuous endeavour towards building a healthy society around, UAIL has been implementing various healthcare initiatives in its operation and periphery.
UAIL has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to cater to the basic health needs of people and community around. As part of its curative health measures, the Company has set up Utkal Hospital at Osapada, Primary Health Centre at Nuapada and a First Aid Centre at Mines top. This apart, UAIL has dedicated two Mobile Health Care Units (MHUs) for the peripheral villagers of Kashipur and Thuamul Rampur blocks which are catering to the healthcare needs of the people at their doorsteps and providing required medicines at free of cost.
In its constant endeavour to provide better healthcare facilities, UAIL is reaching out to nearly 57,000 people of 78 villages under Kashipur Block of Rayagada district and Thuamul Rampur Block of Kalahandi district through MHU services. On an average around 7000 patients are being treated in Utkal Hospital and Nuapada Health Centers every month; and almost 2500 patients are visiting the First Aid Center set up by the company.
UAIL’s 22 bedded UTKAL Hospital, with specialists in gynaecology, medicine, surgery, physiotherapy, etc, has been declared as L1 COVID Hospital; and is well equipped with ventilators, respirators along with modern machines and a physiotherapy center. Similarly, the Nuapada Health Center takes care of all primary health needs of the community catering to all most all villages of 6 gram panchayats of Kashipur Block. Its Ambulance service also offers round the clock service to referral patients of different peripheral villages to Utkal Hospital in Osapada, OPD Nuapada and OHC, Kashipur as well as DHH, Rayagada.
For preventive healthcare, both the MHUs – apart from providing regular health check-up and vaccination facilities – are also organizing awareness camps on prevention of Malaria, Dengue & Diarrhoea; and on the importance of hand washing, sanitation and hygiene, besides the ways to safeguard oneself from lifestyle diseases like Hypertension, Diabetes and Cardio-vascular disease etc.

“Incidentally under the aegis of the Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development, which Mrs. Rajashree Birla chairs, over 4,500 medical camps are conducted for the rural and tribal populace. Furthermore, at the Group’s 18 hospitals in the hinterland of the country thousands of patients are treated for various afflictions, most of them come from the underprivileged communities”.
