Two arrested in alleged rape and murder case of Nabarangpur

Report by Basant Rath, Nabarangpur: Two youths were booked on Friday for alleged murder of a minor girl in Gumandali village of Kosagumuda. Earlier police have claimed that the post-mortem report of the deceased which revealed that the girl was not raped but strangulated to death.

Nabarangpur SP Nitini Kushalkar, said two accused Khadi Bhatra, of Pakhanaguda village, under Kotpad police limits of Koraput district and Bali Majhi, of Gumundali, village under Kosagumuda of Nabarangpur have been arrested. The main accused Khadi Bhatra, was approached several times to marry the deceased girl. When the parents rejected with the proposal, in avenge Khadi Bhatra, with the help of Bali Majhi, who belongs to Gumandali, strangulated to death the minor girl, Said the SP.

A 16-year-old tribal girl, who had gone missing from home on December 13th night, was allegedly found murdered after gang-rape in Gumundoli village in Nabarangpur district. Villagers found her dead body on the outskirts of the village in the morning of December 14th.

The Nabarangpur district congress recently observed 12-hour bandh and demanded the arrest of accused in the alleged rape and murder case. Similarly on Sunday a team of district bar association members led by President Narashingo Tripathy, meets the family members of the minor girl who was allegedly raped and murdered. The association demanded to arrest the culprits and also plead for the assistance for the victims’ family.

Day after the visit of Bar association on Monday, DIG (southern range) Satyabrata Bhoi along with a team of police officials visited the victim’s native Gumundoli village under Kosagumuda police station limits. They inspected the spot and discussed the post-mortem report with the family of the deceased. The police informed the family that the girl was not gang-raped, but was murdered. They assured them of arresting the accused soon.
