Dhenkanal: The third edition of Professor Dr. Mrinal Chatterjee’s Gana Madhyam O Sambadikata (Mass Media and Journalism) was launched here at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) on Wednesday. The book was launched by faculty members of the institute Jitendra Pati, Saumya Ranjan Bihara and Itishree Singh Rathore in presence of the students and staff.
The book is the updated edition of Prof. Chatterjee’s earlier written book of the same name. The first edition of Gana Madhyam O Sambadikata was published in 1998 while the second edition was unveiled in 2005. Along with updated information, the third edition also carries additional chapters explaining ‘Digital Journalism’ and ‘Citizen Journalism.’
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Chatterjee who also happens to be the Regional Director of IIMC Dhenkanal said, “With time, media education has become more important and this book is an attempt to make media students and working journalists ready for the evolution of mass media. As we know, mass media is a very dynamic industry. One needs to keep both his skills and knowledge updated in order to meet the industry requirements. Hence, the book Gana Madhyam O Sambadikata needed to be updated with time.”
Prof. Chatterjee has earlier penned five academic books on journalism and mass communication namely, Gana Madhyam O Sambadikat (Mass Media and Journalism), Sabda-Chhabi-Akhyara (Sound, Picture & Script) Glossary of Terms for Media Persons, History of Journalism in Odisha and Pariibesh O Jana Sachetanata (Environment and Peoples’ awareness). He is also the author of more than 10 novels publications, 7 short story collections and a series of columns in leading Odia dailies. His books have been translated into several Indian languages including Bengali, Assamese and Hindi.
