Kalinganagar: Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has been relentlessly working towards providing safe and clean drinking water to the communities living around the areas of its operations. Continuing with this commitment, under the Aarogya/Swatch Jal Programme, Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT) installed solar-powered drinking water supply system at six locations in Kalinganagar.
The objective of this initiative was to help the rural communities of Kalinganagar with the basic need of access to safe drinking water, while promoting sustainable livelihood. Due to lack of safe drinking water and properly functioning hand pumps, the local communities were exposed to diseases like diarrhoea, jaundice and common fever. In order to address this issue, TPCDT came up with the plan to install the solar powered drinking water supply system. Till now, more than 1,200 people from 6 villages have benefitted from the water supply system installation.
Speaking about the initiative, Anil Sardana, MD and CEO, Tata Power, said, “We at TPCDT have always been focused towards development of communities in the vicinity of Tata Power plants, with the aim of achieving sustainable livelihood for them. Access to safe drinking water is the right of every individual and the installation of solar powered drinking water supply system is an effort towards the same. We are committed towards the health and well being of the locals of Kalinganagar and will continue to come up with more such initiatives going forward.”
TPCDT is also working in bringing other facilities like getting a water connection from government bodies to establishing RO plants and renovating walls to bring clean and safe drinking water for other villages in different parts of the country.
