Seven cities of Madhya Pradesh get one star, 10 cities 3 Star and Indore becomes 5 star city

Bhopal : Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep Singh Puri today announced the results of the star rating process conducted in 4374 cities of the country, in which 18 cities of Madhya Pradesh gave better performance, while the Municipal Corporation of Indore has maintained its five star standard and has made the state proud by becoming the only city in the state to be included in the 6 five star cities of the country. This way Maharashtra ranked first and Madhya Pradesh stood second among the 12 states receiving star ratings.

Appreciating this achievement of the cities of the state, Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has inspired all cities of the state to develop standard and quality sanitation facilities. Total 18 cities of Madhya Pradesh have got better rating, in which seven cities are categorized as one star, ten cities are 3 star and the state’s major city Indore is in the category of five star cities in the results released by the Government of India. Small urban bodies of the country including Badnawar, Hathod, Maheshwar, Sardarpur and Shahganj apart from Gwalior and Khandwa Municipal Corporation are included among the one star cities. Among the three star cities Bhopal, Burhanpur, Chhindwara, Katni, Singrauli and Ujjain municipal corporations along with Khargone, Omkareshwar, Pithampur cities have also secured their position.

The Government of India annually evaluates public defecation facilities and garbage collection and disposal systems in cities, in which quality maintenance of public defecation facilities along with overall value chain of solid waste is evaluated on various parameters . These results are included in the clean survey results on a proportional basis. The above results have encouraged the cities of the state. Extending his best wishes to all the bodies for their positions, Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Housing Department Shri Nitesh Kumar Vyas, has asked them to provide better sanitation facilities to the citizens.

Commissioner Urban Administration and Development Shri P. Narhari has said that during the Swachhta Sarvekshan -2020, the state’s bodies had made tireless efforts to establish the cities on the national scenario. These results have instill hope in us to expect better results in future. Hope Madhya Pradesh maintains its identity in the area of cleanliness at the national level.
