Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana to be launched on 21st May in Chhattisgarh; Rs. 5700 crores to be transferred into farmer’s accounts through DBT

Raipur: On the Martyrdom Day of Bharat Ratna late Mr. Rajiv Gandhi i.e. on May 21st, Chhattisgarh Government is going to launch Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana. Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and Mr. Rahul Gandhi will be attending the inaugural programme of this scheme from Delhi via video conferencing. Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel and Cabinet Ministers will pay floral tribute to the oil painting of late Mr. Rajiv Gandhi in a programme to be held at Chief Minister’s residence office. Thereafter, Rs 1500 crores will be transferred online to the accounts of farmers, as the first installment of Rs 5700 Cr provisioned under the scheme. In this programme, MPs, MLAs, public representativesm farmers and beneficiaries of various schemes will participate via video conferencing.

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel today reviewed the preparation for the inauguration of the scheme at his residence office with senior officials. It is noteworthy that Chhattisgarh is the first state of the country to provide financial relief of Rs 5700 crore through DBT in bank accounts of farmers. In this difficult time of pandemic, Chhattisgarh Government is about to provide major relief to the farmers through Rajiv Gandhi Kisaan Nyay Yojana. Main objective of this scheme is to encourage production of crops and to provide farmers the fair value of their produce.
At the onset, Chief Minister Mr. Baghel will briefly address the inaugural programme informing about Rajiv Gandhi Kisaan Nyay Yojana. In the programme, Rs 1500 crore will be transferred to the accounts of farmers through DBT, as first installment the total provisioned amount of Rs 5700 Cr. On the occasion, interaction with beneficiaries of the scheme, women self-help group members, MNREGA and minor forest produce beneficiaries, sugarcan and corn producing farmers will be held via video conferencing.
Chhattisgarh Government has launched this scheme to accelerate the rural economic growth and to create new employment opportunities in the agriculture sector. This scheme will not only encourage cultivation of crops but will also provide fair value of the crops to farmers. Under this scheme, 19 lakh farmers of the state will be provided Rs 5700 crores in four installments through direct bank transfer. This is the first of its kind ambitious scheme in the entire country.
In order to encourage farmers to cultivate crops, through this scheme, the State Government will provide paddy and maize cultivating farmers financial aid at the rate of maximum Rs.10 thousand per acre from Kharif 2019 season, on the basis of the quantity procured through cooperative society. Under this scheme 18 lakh 34 thousand 834 farmers will be provided Rs 1500 crore as first installment for paddy crop. Under this scheme, nine lakh 53 thousand 706 marginalized farmers, 5 lakh 60 thousand small farmers and 3 lakh 20 thousand 844 big farmers will be benefitted.
Similarly, for sugarcane crop, payment of FRP amount of Rs 261 per quintal and incentive and exchange grant worth Rs 93.75 per quintal i.e. maximum Rs 355 per quintal, will be done, based on the quantity of sugarcane procured by the cooperative mill in the crushing year 2019-20. Under this, 34 thousand 637 farmers of the state will get Rs 73 crore 55 lakh in four installments. The first installment of this amount, Rs. 18 crore 43 lakh will be transferred on 21 May.
The Government of Chhattisgarh is also going to provide incentive money (outstanding bonus) at the rate of Rs 50 per quintal based on the quantity of sugarcane purchased through cooperative sugar factories in the year 2018-19. Under this, Rs 10 crore 27 lakh will be given to 24 thousand 414 farmers of the state. The state government has also decided to provide benefits to farmers on maize crop procured through cooperative society / lamps in Kharif 2019, under this scheme. Data of maize crop are being taken. Based on which they will be paid in the upcoming installment.
Under the scheme, the state government has included paddy, maize, soyabean, groundnut, sesame, arhar , moong, urad, kulthi, ramatil, kodo, kotki from kharif 2020 and sugarcane in rabi. The government has also said that if the farmer receiving grant takes paddy crop in the previous year and replaces the paddy with other crops included in the scheme, this year, then in such a situation they will be given additional assistance per acre.
In order to make the state’s economy dynamic and strong, Chhattisgarh government has transferred an amount of Rs 900 crore to farmers in their accounts in times of crisis like lockdown, under crop insurance and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, the state government has waived Rs 8800 crore loan of about 18 lakh farmers before it, as well as relief has been provided to farmers by taking steps like four times compensation on agricultural land acquisition, irrigation tax waiver.
