Report by Basant Rath; Nabarangpur: In a tragic incident in Nabarangpur district two Brothers carry sister’s body on a bicycle for funeral ceremony on Saturday. Though some locals took photographs of the incident and circulated them
through mobile phones, nobody volunteered to help them.
The incident took place at Madigaon village in Gambhariguda panchayat of Chandahandi block where Nunkhai Pandey, (42) living with her two brothers Purusatam Pandey and Teka Pandey, breathed her last in Friday night. None of their relatives and fellow villagers came forward to help them till Saturday morning even resorted to request to villagers to take part in the last rites. Finding no way out the two brothers tied their sister’s body to the bicycle carrier and carried to nearby Bhandari River for completion of cremation and other last rite
formalities.
It was alleged that the relatives and the fellow villagers boycotted her cremation and last rites as she was married in different caste and later separated from her husband.
