Report by Badal Tah; Rayagada: Getting a tip off form anonymous informer about some criminal activities in a place near Sankesh forest, Rayagada police got into swift action. On Monday at about 4.00 AM, there was an exchange of fire between a dreaded antisocial Siva@Hadapa Siva and police team of Rayagada Police station under the limits of Rayagada PS. Siva@ H. Siva is involved in more than 50 criminal cases in Rayagada district including the recent abduction for Rs.10 lakhs ransom of a Sonepur youth where 11 abductors were involved. While the police party found his location and tried to arrest him for his crime, using a pistol he alongwith two of his associates fired upon the police injuring police personnel and tried to escape. Police fired for self defense and in the exchange of fire the anti social Siva sustained injury in his left leg and minor injury in the head. Two others have escaped and they will be arrested soon. Following treatment in District Headquarters Hospital, Rayagada Siva was referred to MKCG medical college, Berhampur for better treatment. In the process of exchange of fire police party viz Sub-Inspector Rigan Kindo and Havildar Dilip Hota have also sustained injuries. Both the police personnels are out of danger and haven released from the hospital after initial treatment.
Siva is the kingpin and has been involved in burglaries, abduction, extortion and several other serious criminal cases. He possessed daggers, bombs, pistols and various other fire arms some of which were recently recovered while police apprehended six dreaded criminals out of eleven in an abduction case. It is known from reliable sources that he operated through a political patronage. Even his wife was a ward councillor of Rayagada municipality. He was the most wanted criminal of Rayagada district. Now and then he was getting arrested and was soon out on bail. This is first ever incident police has showed courage to take such a stringent action through an ambush in Rayagada.
In a press briefing SP said that one pistol and nine bullets had been confiscated. Dreaded criminal Siva had a history of earlier attacking a police official with his dagger. Dr Saravana Vivek M, SP Rayagada is on a spree to cleanse the criminal filths like this alongwith illegal cannabis cultivation, illicit liquor business, restoring peace in Naxal affected villages, traffic rules violators and establishing rules of law. As a sportsperson he has been promoting sports in the district. As a doctor himself he has been a good Samaritan in rescuing passers-by who met with accidents. He takes lead in blood donation camps by donating blood himself. He was highly applauded when he issued ID cards to senior citizens of the town. His socialisation has thus justified the maxim “Rayagada Police dares and cares”.
