Odisha Parba at Surat ended with much pomp and show

Surat: ‘Odisha Parba-2018 at Surat’, a two day-long mega celebration of Odisha’s culture, tradition, heritage & cuisine organised by New Delhi based Odia Samaj witnessed heavy footfall on both 2nd and 3rd September at Surat, the business capital of the state of Gujarat. This magnificent festival had given an opportunity to the people of Gujarat and especially Surat to experience the unique art, culture, heritage, tradition, cuisine, dance, music and various other delights from this beautiful coastal state. Odisha Parba also showcased the illustrious history and saga of the valour of Odisha’s brave hearts against the British Raj, through a multi projection 3D mapping film. Over 40 thousand visitors were thrilled with joy to witness Odisha’s magnificent journey from the ancient era to the illustrious contemporary times.

Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India Shri Dharmendra Pradhan presided over the valedictory day of this two day long celebration as Chief Guest of the evening and said Odisha Parba was started in Delhi and reached at Surat today and in upcoming days the festival will also be celebrated in other states.

Among others Shri Harsh Sanghavi MLA, Famous Ollywood actor & actress Shri Aparajita Mohanty, Shri Mihir Das, Sritam Das, Harihara Mahapatra, Pinky Pradhan, music director, Manmath Mishra, Panchanan Nayak and social worker Surama Padhi enlightened the event with their presence.

Shri Sidhartha Pradhan, President of Odia Samaj said, “we are spellbound by the enthusiastic response by the residents of Surat. The festival saw huge gathering of people on both the days. After two successful editions of Odisha Parba in Delhi, we wanted to give even a better experience this time and the huge gathering of people was a testimony to our hard work and commitment. Through this festival we are showcasing the rich culture and heritage of Odisha. It was very satisfying to see people enjoying the glimpse of Odishan culture and heritage and relishing mouth watering and authentic odia delicacies. The folk dances and musical presentations from Odisha mesmerised the audience greatly.”

DAY 2 Highlights:

Cultural performances unfurled on Day 2 of the Parba with a live performance by Abhijeet Majumdar, Baboo Panigrahi and Sohini Mishra. Besides Gahani by Bharat Leela Ganjam, Animal mask dance, Bonda dance, fusion dance of Odisha classical and Garba dance enthralled the audience.

Yet another folk dance – Sambalpuri dance which is one of the sought after and leading form of folk dances in Odisha was also presented. Paika theme song dance, Mangala Ghata Nritya from Bhanjanagar gave ample enjoyment to the masses.

Sand Art, Jagannath Bhog, Odia Cuisine, handlooms and handicrafts and multi projection film on Indomitable spirit of Odisha were some of the special attractions of Odisha Parba at Surat. Residents from all around Surat enjoyed the two day long celebrations with great vigor and enthusiasm.

The Surat edition of Odisha Parba had covered 1 lakh 26 thousand sq. ft. area; the event showcased the rich legacy of Odisha. The entrance gate designed in the shape of holy chariots of Lord Jagannath replicates the holy spirit of Odisha. A Grand stage was set up reflecting the valour and legacy of Odisha. The food stall on the theme ‘Na Tiana Chha Bhaja’ added to the odia ambience.
