Rourkela: The metallurgical and material science department of National Institute of Technology, Rourkela celebrated it’s meta golden jubilee reunion, Aurum. To perpetuate the memory of late. Professor Dr. Pani who has started the department, an endowment chair was inaugurated by his wife dr Krushna Priya Pani.
Addressing the gathering legendry metallurgist dr. Somnath Mishra said, For me, it’s a family reunion. The essential benchmark of the industrial revolution of independent India, Rourkela was laid by the visionary Biju Patnaik, the then regional engineering college later named as national institute of Technology Rourkela. This city is the heart of metallurgy. The pertinent technical course metallurgical engineering was introduced two years later in 1974 I was offered the principalship of this celebrated college. The department has progressed ever since with brilliant students faculties etc. it has undergone several international collaborations’’, said Dr. Mishra.
Chairman of the ‘Aurum’, Deba Mohapatra said, ‘’In a blink of an eye fifty years have gone by and we have assembled to celebrate golden jubilee . for me this homecoming is special as I have not been here since graduation. This is the place where we underwent life-changing metamorphosis. the degree we earned launched us on the career path and gave us the opportunity to make a positive contribution to society’’ said Deba Mohapatra.
Attending the event the president of NIT Rourkela alumni association, PR Padhee said, ‘’I’m extremely delighted that the department of metallurgical and material science is celebration it’s a golden jubilee. the wholehearted contribution of faculty, students and alumni make this event a grand success. the department has completed 50 glorious graduating batches with a remarkable contribution in the field of academics, research, industry and to the society at large.
The department has produced many eminent metallurgists and scientists of national and international repute, who have made a substantial contribution and created a benchmark all over the globe ‘’, he said. Professor Smarajit Sarkar head of the metallurgical department seeks everybody’s corporation for future endeavor. The director-in-charge of NITR professor Kamala Kantha Mohapatra said, ‘’ NIT Rourkela is growing. We have achieved an important position as an educational institution across the country. This would not have been possible without the contribution of the students. Students are the fourth pillar of this institution. I seek everybody’s support to achieve the target of this institution.
In the beginning the convenor professor Archana Mallick. Welcomed the guests and coordinated the event. More than 200 alumni’s from metallurgical and material science department across the globe participated and shared their experience during the golden jubilee celebrations.
