Bhubaneswar: Michael Debabrata Patra appointed RBI’s fourth Deputy Governor. He will take over the position lying vacant after Viral Acharya’s exit last year.
Currently, Patra is the Executive Director at RBI, overseeing four departments — Department of Economic and Policy Research, Department of Statistics and Information Management, Monetary Policy Department and New Frontiers Unit. He is also part of the rate setting six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
Patra, who has a PhD in Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, is a career central banker. His MPC statements show that he is balanced in his views on navigating the economy through the growth-inflation conundrum.
