Leh: The Sunfeast Cup 2019 raised the bar in Ladakh with its second edition in a yet another exciting football tournament this year. The matches took place from 19th August to 25th August 2019 at NDS Grounds. This edition received a strong participation from U-13 and U-16 Boys and U-16 Girls football teams.
Sunfeast has been constantly encouraging football for years with multiple tournaments being held across the country in North Eastern states and West Bengal. The second edition in Ladakh saw a lot of excitement amongst football enthusiasts. More than 40 teams participated over the week to make it a very competitive event. It is encouraging to see Sunfeast Cup evolve as a platform for many budding players to showcase their talent. Sunfeast Cup has built this unique platform for kids across India to facilitate their journey towards becoming passionate footballers for the country.
People in Ladakh have been extremely passionate about the tournament with an audience that involved parents, school children and well-wishers cheering for the teams and their loved ones. Organized by SPT Sports in association with Sunfeast Biscuits, ITC Ltd, the second edition of the Sunfeast Cup, Ladakh saw budding footballers in high spirits as they put their best foot forward for the game. Chief Guest Sh. Gyal P Wangyal, Chief Executive Councillor, The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh and guest of honour Sachin Kumar Vilas, Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Ms. Sargun Shukla, SSP, Leh and Sh. Shaji Prabhakar, St. Consultant, Asian Football Confederation provided encouragement and uplifted the passion for the sport among young athletes.
The football league witnessed challenging set of matches between 41 teams with nail biting performances and astonishing efforts by the promising young stars. The Sunfeast’s Cup, Ladakh saw an exciting battle between the finalists – between U-13 – Art for Cause and DPK A team, U-16 Boys- DPK A team and Lamdon School and U-16 Girls DPK A team and Govt. Girls School football teams. Team Art for Cause in U-16 category, team DPK A in girls category and DPK A in U-13 category are the champions from Ladakh for Sunfeast Cup 2019.
Sharing insights about the tournament Amit Saran, CEO SPT Sports Management said, “Sunfeast Cup has become a noteworthy football tournament for the young talents in Ladakh. Bearing in mind the geography and the landscape, the opportunity to witness such a prestigious tournament in Leh is truly remarkable. We are glad to see more talented football players in the city who can be empowered to become professional players through this noble initiative by Sunfeast.”
The winning teams Art for Cause in U-16 category, team DPK A in girls category and DPK A in U-13 category received a total cash prize of INR 50,000/-
