Bhubaneswar: Xavier School of Sustainability (XSoS) hosted the third edition of Children’s Environment Congress on 21st December ’18. This event is a part of Odisha Environment Congress (OEC) whose main objective is to create a platform for children to imagine, believe and achieve through expert talks, activities and competitions to appreciate Environment and Gandhi. The theme for this year was ‘Environment and Gandhi’ to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, whose views have been a subject of discussion in several national and international meets, leading to changes in Government Policy on Environment.
The purpose of this event was to inculcate the idea of sustainability in children, who need to live for a cause and are the future. The event witnessed children from various schools in and around Khurda participating in various events like essay writing, drawing, debate and singing. Winners of each competition were awarded in the valedictory function of Children’s Environment Congress held at Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB).
The event was a joint collaboration between with Human Development Foundation-Centre for Development Action & Research (HDFcDAR), Centre for Environment and Development (CED), Regional Centre for Development Cooperation (RCDC), Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNH) Bhubaneswar and Xavier School of Sustainability (XSoS) and was graced by Prof. Radhamohan (former RTI Commissioner Odisha), Shri Abasara Beuria (Retd. IFS, Former Indian Ambassador), and Dr. Seba Mahapatra (Former Director, DHS, Govt. of Odisha).
