Bhubaneswar: The BJP Krushak Morcha urged the state government to waive farm loans and disburse fresh interest-free loans to famers soon. On this regard the BJP Krushak Morcha on Monday handed over a memorandum with signatures of 25 lakh farmers to Governor Dr SC Jamir.
Morcha members and farmers led by its State president Shibaji Mohanty staged a dharna in front of the Governor’s House before submission of the memorandum.
“Many farmers, who were on their way to attend dharna, were stopped by BJD workers at different places. Many ruling party workers came in a rally and tried to disrupt our dharan. They threw stones at us taking advantage of police silence,” said Mohanty.
The Morcha demanded that the State Government provide interest-free loans to farmers soon so that they can double their income.
Among others, State vice-president Sameer Mohanty, MLA Pradeep Purohit, secretary Kalandi Samal, Jatin Mohanty, Lekhashree Samantsinghar, Sudipta Ray, Morcha national vice-president Maheshwar Sahoo, Yuva Morcha national vice-president Thakur Ranjit Singh and State Secretary Surath Biswal were present.
Later an 18-member team led by Mohanty went to the Raj Bhavan and handed over the memorandum to the Governor.
