Bhubaneswar: The highest and one of the toughest Marathons of the world, Ladakh Marathon has recently been completed at an height of 11500ft above the MSL (Mean Sea Level) with more than 6000 runners from India and abroad. Conducted in 4 different categories, i.e. Ladakh Ultra – KhardungLa Challenge (72KMs), Ladakh Marathon (42.195KMs), Ladakh Half-Marathon (21.9KMs) and Run Ladakh for Fun (7KMs), this running event is claimed to be the highest in the world. Gravel roads, stiff climbs, sharp turns, ultra-high terrains, adverse weather conditions and low Oxygen level makes this running event one of the toughest in the world.
In the 8th edition of Ladakh Marathon, on Sunday, 9th of September 2018, BCACian and Barefoot Runner, Soubhagya Kumar Rath participated in the Full-Marathon category and successfully completed this ultra-endurance race well before the cut-off time of 6:30 hours (5:58:39 hours to be precise). Although, Soubhagya completed the half-way mark in almost 2 hours, the lack of oxygen, adverse weather and induced muscle cramps forced this barefoot runner to slow-down in the 2nd half-way distance. Strong determination, willpower to win mind over the body and commitment for touching the finishing-line pushed Soubhagya to complete this marathon as one of the first in the State (Odisha). Having run, Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM-2018), Kolkata Marathon 2018, Satara Marathon 2018 and Thunnur Triathlon, Soubhagya is aiming for Ironman title in near future.
BCAC takes this opportunity to congratulate Barefoot Runner Soubhagya on this colossal achievement and wishing him good luck for his future endeavours. BCAC would also like to congratulate Dr. Sagarika Mishra (wife of Soubhagya) for completing the 7KM “Run Ladakh for Fun” event as a category of this spectacular Ladakh Marathon.
It’s noteworthy to mention that 13 members team of cyclists from BCAC has recently completed the Manali-Leh-KhardungLa (MLK) Challange climbing to a height of 17982ft (at KhardungLa) in September-2018. Quite famed for long-distance ultra-cycling expeditions, marathon running and various other adventure activities, BCAC members are quite inspired with this stupendous achievement of Soubhagya in the Highest Marathon of the World.
