Bhubaneswar: ‘Bande Utkala Janani’ to get State anthem status, proposal passed in Odisha Cabinet meeting chaired by CM Naveen Patnaik today.
Today, in the 15th Meeting of the State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the complete song ‘Bande Utkal Janani’, written by Kantakabi Laxmikanta Mohapatra has been accorded official status. The Cabinet also expressed gratitude to the great poet for creation of such immortal song which reflects the abundant natural beauty and glory of Odisha.
On the appeal of Chief Minister, every Odia across the globe had recited ‘Bande Utkal Janani’ at 5.30PM on 30th May to express their gratitude to the front line workers leading the fight against COVID-19. The response was outstanding. 10 Lakh people have uploaded the visuals of recital in social media expressing their solidarity as son of the soil.
In order to perpetuate this auspicious moment and to respect the sentiment of 4.5 Crore Odias, the State Cabinet has accorded official status to ‘Bande Utkal Janani’.
For recital/singing of the song at various functions the following decisions have been taken by the Cabinet.
i. The official version of the song will be played at various Government functions, Assembly sessions, specially arranged official functions without music and with due reverence.
ii. In school, colleges, other meetings and cultural functions it can be played with background /music accompaniment.
iii. It can also be played through Police Band, flute, sitar and other kind of musical instruments.
iv. There will be no restriction on creative rendering of the song for promotion and propagation.
v. The School & Mass Education Department and Higher Education Department shall include the full song ‘Bande Utkal Janani’ in their educational curriculum.
