AMRI Hospitals organizes Walkathon for creating awareness about Heart Healthy Environment

Berhampur: On the occasion of World Heart Day, AMRI Hospitals organized a Walkathon in order to create awareness about Heart diseases to create heart healthy environment in the city (Berhampur, Odisha). More than 1000 citizens of Berhampur participated in this Walkathon to create a buzz around growing prevalence of Cardio Vascular Diseases (CVD). It tried to establish how walking and physical activity, in addition to healthy diet & lifestyle, can prevent one from falling prey to heart ailments. The enthusiastic participants were from all sections of the society including members of Daily Walkers Association, traders association, college students, nurses & renowned doctors. The walk was led by the Dr. Ramesh Chandra Chyau Patnaik, MLA, Berhampur Constituency as Chief Guest, Shri Vijay Amruta Kulange,( IAS) Collector & District Magistrate, Ganjam and all the senior Doctors of the Hospital. The walk began from Kamapalli Chawk, Berhampur via Subarao Square to culminate at Diamond Jubille Town Hall, Berhampur.
The Cardio Vascular Diseases (CVD) is one of the most alarming non communicable diseases (NCDs) that is responsible for biggest cause of death among Indians. According to World Health Organization (WHO), one of the top causes of death in India is Ischemic Heart Disease. Dr. Jitendra Nath Patnaik, Cardiac Thorasic Surgeon, AMRI Hospitals Bhubaneswar, said “This is alarming when most of the people are not aware of the basic symptoms of a heart attack. Many people lacked awareness about radiating pain in jaw, arms, shoulders, abdomen & back and maximum people lacked awareness about nausea associated Epigastric (upper abdominal) pain – important symptoms of a Heart Attack.” “The need for such awareness Walkathon become immense when the knowledge of symptoms or awareness is weakest amongst the young respondents (18-25yrs) with least importance given to radiating pain in jaw, arms, shoulders, abdomen and back. with all the Holiday cheer in the air, it is easy to overlook the ingredients in foods .Ingredients such as excess salt ,sugar and fat :all of which leads to diseases such as blood pressure, diabetes ,heart disease and stroke. Make a healthy diet choice for a healthy life.” Said Dr. Lingaraj Nath, Interventional Cardiology, AMRI Hospitals Bhubaneswar.
