ActionAid Distributes Dry Rations & Sanitation Kits with Social Distancing for most vulnerable Community

By Bhaskar Pradhan, Bhubaneswar: During on-going lockdown under COVID 19 pandemic in Bhubaneswar, a huge number of people in informal economy and residents of urban slums are suffering with many challenges to meet their daily needs. ActionAid as part of COVID-19 response along with its partner organisation CCWD supported by HELO & Give India, provided 2102 Dry food ration kits and Sanitation kits to most marginalised households including single women, aged person, domestic worker, construction labour, petty vendor belong to Dalit, Adivasi community and other social and religious group. Mandap & Munda Basti, Nilamadhaba Basti, Banaphula Basti, Sitanath Basti, Telugu Basti, Birsa Munda Basti, Panitanki Basti and Jalimunda Basti under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation .

Runubala Pradhan aged 40 years a small grocery shop vendor in the locality says “We are very much thankful to receive the ration and sanitation kit and I found all the ration and sanitation items are very useful for me and my family. This would help me to meet my family requirement in current lockdown. I don’t have much opportunity to open my little shop and earn.” She further added.

In the entire process of distribution, the support of community leaders, volunteers and the front-line service providers was mobilised to maintain the social distancing and follow the Government guideline. To ensure social distancing, the distribution was done in phase wise manner and in each phase five people were called to stand in demarcated circle and provided with Dry rations and Sanitation kits. The recipient households were provided with token before the day of distribution to ensure utmost social distancing. Also, a transparency flex was displayed in the venue mentioning the details of the items in the kit and its quantity with price as part of the efforts to inform the people on a very transparent way. BMC has given permission for distribution of the dry ration and sanitation kits in the urban slums.

The team members of ActionAid Debabrat Patra-Regional Manager, Suvendu Ray-M&E Manager, B N Durga-State Programme Manager, Arjun Digal, Shyam Pal and members of CCWD Sadashiv Swain-Secretary, Gitanjali Panda, Kalyani Rout, Manas Ranjan Pradhan, Damayanti Sahoo, Renubala Sahoo, Ajit Ku Pradhan joined the distribution programme and facilitated smooth distribution maintaining utmost social distancing.
