Koraput: The concluding and 3rd day of the ongoing 2nd Deomali Jatiya Natya Mahotsav 2017 organised by Nandanik featured 3 plays in Urdu, Hindi & Odia creating a truly national flavour of Indian Theatre in Koraput.
The programme started with the members of Nandanik singing Bande Utkala Janani to observe the Utkala Dibasa. The opening play of the day, Mujawir, an adaptation of Franz Kafka’s ‘The Warden of the Tomb’ was presented by Little Thespian, Kolkata & directed by S M Azhar Alam. The next play, Mansha ki Shaadi, was presented by Byka & Company, Pune. The play is written by Ketki Pandit & directed by Zameer Kambli . The audience were enthralled at the wonderful solo acting of Arti Tiwari as she represented the problems of an Indian wedding in a satirical manner. The last play of the festival was a collective effort by the organizers Nandanik in Odia, Varatiya Darkar, a comedy centering a house that is to be rented. The play was premiered in the festival.
Certificates were given away to participants of the Children’s Theatre Workshop that was organized during the festival. Rituparna Biswas & Subhendu Bhandari were the trainers in the workshop.
The festival ended in collective singing of Bande Utkala Janani in observance of the Utkala Divasa.
The audience, a packed house, appreciated the performances and thanked the organizers for providing a wonderful opportunity to witness the best of national theatre in a place like Koraput.
The 2nd Deomali Jatiya Natya Mahotsav 2017 organised by Nandanik was held on March 30, 31 & April 1, 2017 at Town Hall, Koraput. The festival, which is the only national level theatre festival in South Odisha, featured 7 plays in 5 languages by teams from 3 states.
