Report by Basant Rath; Nabarangpur: Two minor kids died in a fire mishap at Mainapadar village under Jharigam block on Sunday. The deceased were cousins have been identified as Sujata Santa (4) daughter of Samasana Santa and Alina
Santa (3) daughter of Pabitra Santa.
As per reports, Sujata Santa, Alila Santa, along with cousin Archita Santa, playing near the harvested corn kept in a makeshift hut in the fields outside the village some 300 metres away from their house.
Sources said the hut covered with paddy stubble which is combustible in nature. The kids were screaming when the fire broke out. Seeing fire and smoke, villagers and family members of the deceased went to the maize field. However, the villagers could not save the two kids as they were dead by that time. In the meantime family members found Archita, near the hut in horrifying condition.
Villagers said the parents were working in the maize field to harvest the ripen maize. It is suspected that a small pit, which was dug up to cook food during the night, might have triggered the blaze trapping two of the minors inside.
