Joda: With an objective to inculcate safety practices among the mining professionals, a two-day workshop was organized by Directorate General of Mines Safety, South Eastern Zone, Ranchi at Valley Club, Joda on February 27-28, 2020.
Mr Prabhat Kumar, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety, South Eastern Zone, Ranchi, graced the inaugural session on Thursday as Chief Guest in the presence of Mr P K Singh, Director of Mines Safety, Mechanical (SEZ) Ranchi, Mr S K Pedada, Director of Mines Safety, Mechanical (SEZ) Ranchi, Mr Anand Agarwal, Director of Mines Safety Electrical, (SEZ) Ranchi, Mr Altaf H Ansari, Director of Mines Safety, Chaibasa Region, Mr D K Burman, General Manager (MIOM) SAIL and Mr Atul Kumar Bhatnagar, General Manager (OMQ), Tata Steel. Among others present on the occasion were, Deputy Director of Mines Safety of SEZ, Ranchi & Chaibasa.
On the inaugural day, a ‘Workshop on Safe Maintenance Practices in Heavy Earth Moving Machinery and Accident Analysis’ was organized, while on the second day, an awareness session on ‘Electrical Mines Safety’ was organized for the mining professionals of the region.
Around 300 participants from various mining companies of the region including Tata Steel, Rungta Mines, Jindal Steel and Power, Essel Mines, MG Mohanty and others altogether from more than 40 mines, attended the two-day workshop where the dignitaries informed them regarding various aspects of safety in mining with special focus on HEMM maintenance and electrical safety citing case studies.
The DGMS officials emphasized the need of making the people aware about the legislative requirement in identifying and managing the hazards and risk. They also said that this is the beginning and such events will be regularly organized by DGMS in the region and zone. A total of eight Technical & Regulatory presentations were made by the DGMS Directors and from the mines of Tata Steel Ltd, SAIL & JSPL.
The dignitaries along with the participants also visited the safety equipment gallery put up by Tata Steel’s OMQ Division displaying various safety tools and techniques used in the mines.
