Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the most exciting sports event the 22nd Asian Athletics Meet the Team Bhubaneswar comprising of BDA, BMC and Smart City officials is on mission mode to address civic issues. Under the leadership of Dr. Krishan Kumar, the commissioner of BMC and Vice Chairman of BDA is the “Team Bhubaneswar” is on the job to address Sanitation, Encroachment, Food Safety, Beautification, Citizens Connect and other basic civic issues like street light and storm water management.
A review meeting has already done for effective management of sanitation for the AAC-17. A team of officials have been assigned with the job of taking field inspection in around 30 number of wards on daily basis. The City Health Officer has been instructed to keep alert with his team of Sanitary Inspectors to ensure proper cleanliness. Adequate number of dustbins have be placed in and around the Kalinga Stadium where the mega event is scheduled. In some places road sweeping and cleaning shall be done twice a day instead of once.
For ensuring food safety 5 number of squads have been formed including one mobile squad. In North Zone and East Zone thorough inspection has been carried out in presence of Food Safety Officers in various restaurants and food stalls. Today around one quintal of stale food have been destroyed in North and East zone of BMC.
The foot paths in major part of the capital city is totally free of encroachment as the joint eviction squad of BMC and BDA has taken massive drive against illegal encroachment. Gates of Kalinga Stadium and near by places have been cleared by the team which were encroached by a number of individuals. Emphasis is given to clear the cycle tracks cum footpaths from street food vendors.
A team of engineers under the guidance of City Engineer, BMC is on 24×7 duty to address any kind of emergency situation including street light issue and storm water management. The Electricity branch of the civic body is equipped with hydraulic machinery to counter any situation related to street lights although all the major routes have already been illuminated with led lights.
The BMC Commissioner, Dr. Krishan Kumar has requested all the officers and staff to make the mega event success and to act as team which would bring honour and glory for the state and the nation as well. It may be noted that 45 nations are participating in the Asian Athletics Championship were around 800 national and international players will take part.
