Bhopal: Superstar Shri Amitabh Bachchan has lauded the swachhata abhiyan going on in the state through public participation under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He was speaking here today to Chief Minister Shri Chouhan on a T.V. Channel as a brand ambassador of Swachh Bharat.
Shri Bachchan asked a question to the Chief Minister related to the changes brought about due to the Swachhata Abhiyan in the last one year. The Chief Minister told him that 22 cities of Madhya Pradesh out of 100 cities of India were chosen in the cleanliness survey. Indore stood at the No. 1 position while Bhopal bagged the second position in the country. He said that Madhya Pradesh is moving fast ahead in cleanliness in rural areas also. He said Gwalior was on top in the entire country.
CM Shri Chouhan told the Superstar that the state was lagging behind in toilet construction in rural areas earlier but in a very short span it worked speedily in this direction and has surpassed the national average. He said that looking at the support and assistance of general public in the swachhata abhiyan, it can be said that Madhya Pradesh will be free of open defecation by year 2018.
The Chief Minister said that miraculous results have come in from many cities. The outburst of diseases resulting due to dirtiness has reduced. People’s mentality has changed. A positive mentality to keep their villages and cities has developed among the people. Shri Chouhan expressed gratitude to the people for their enthusiastic participation in Swachhata Abhiyan.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that Swachhata has turned into a public movement in the state. This work could not have been done by the government alone without the support of the society. People are zealous to see their state on the top in the country as far as cleanliness is concerned. Shri Chouhan told Shri Bachchan that 378 urban bodies have become fully free of open defecation. Hoshangabad and Shajapur district have been declared open defecation free today.
Shri Chouhan said that the work of changing people’s mentality towards cleanliness is in progress, The message of cleanliness is being propagated from village to village through bhajan mandalis and other medium. He said that efforts are being speeded up to make people adopt the use of toilets. The Chief Minister said that 10 MW Waste to Energy Plant has been started in Jabalpur. Systematic arrangements have been made for waste disposal. Plastic bags have been prohibited. Awareness is gradually increasing. People and the government are together moving ahead in the Swachhata Mission.
