Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) has appointed former Team India opening batsman Shiv Sundar Das as the new coach of the State senior and Ranji cricket team.
Das replaces former Team India pacer Debasish Mohanty ,who opted out on personal grounds. Das played for India in 23 Tests and compiled 1,326 runs at an average of 34.89. He scored two hundreds for the country in test matches. The gritty opener also represented India in four ODIs.
He made his Ranji Trophy debut for Odisha against Madhya Pradesh in the 1993-94 season. Das finished his domestic career with 10,908 runs at a healthy average of 38.68. Das’ highest first-class score of 300 not out came against Jammu and Kashmir in Cuttack in 2007. He also cracked an impressive 250 for Indians against Essex XI in a tour match in England in 2002.
