Bhubaneswar: The 78th Patha Utsav on Feb 10th will have central theme based on Road Safety. The Transport Department on this occasion will also organise a Rangoli Competition among the students.
While the junior group will be from Class VIII to Class X, the senior group will be from Class XI and above or reading in Plus Two level. There would also be street plays and other activities by the department as the deaths on roads are increasing in an alarming way across the State and Nation.
Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Bhubanewar –II SK Behera said “as we are now observing the 30th National Road Safety Week (from February 4 to 10th) the Rangoli Competition on Road Safety among students will definitely create a massive awareness across the State Capital. We are also planning to give cash awards to two winners each from each group at the Patha Utsav venue.’’
The participants are supposed to come with their materials to do the Rangoli at Patha Utsav site on Janpath, said the official letter of the RTO to educational institutions requesting their heads to send students to participate in the most popular street festival of the city.
More activities like roadside drama by two groups Seva Prayas Foundation and Music Media, counselling on Good Samaritan Policy-2018 by Transport Department and counselling on Solatium Fund Scheme by volunteers of Odisha Calling Foundation will be other activities to attract visitors
RTO II Mr Behera also said that the Road Safety Awareness has become an absolute necessity as according to 2017 data every 1.5 minutes there is a major accident and every 3.3 minute one person dies due to road mishap. While on a single day 410 persons died across India due to road mishaps in India, in Odisha it was 12 per day during 2017.
Enforcement Member, Bhubaneswar Development Authority and Nodal Officer for Patha Utsav Bhabani Shankar Chayani said “we hope that more and more students, intellectuals and citizens from all age groups will join the most popular street fest of the Temple City as the event also advocates non-motorised transport and healthy lifestyle.’’
Besides the usual music, dance, rangoli, art, storytelling, fitness activities, yoga, cycling and roller skating the visitors will experience storytelling on stage for the first time.
