Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association (Under New Pension Scheme) on Sunday said it would gherao the State Assembly on November 30 in protest against the lackadaisical attitude of the State Government in providing adequate salary to its members and creating infrastructure in schools.
Addressing a Press meet here, association president Brahmananda Moharana and general secretary Bibhuprasad Sahoo said the new pension system is against the teachers as allowance of Rs 500 to Rs 600 is being paid to teachers after retirement. They demanded that the new pension system be withdrawn and the old system be implemented soon. They too demanded salary be paid with basic pay plus grade pay of Rs 2,800 and revise the Seventh Pay accordingly. Besides, they urged the Government to create a special cadre for primary teachers soon as “promised” by the Chief Minister before election.
Among others, Gopal Kishore Sen, Surendra Nath Rout, Keshab Chandra Kar, Tulu Dei, Jitendra Kumar Nayak, Sudhanshu Sekhar Mandal, Chittaranjan Panda, Prasanna Kumar Jena, Sudhanshu Sekhar Nayak, Dillip Sethi, Sabita Mishra, Amitabh Jena, Sanjay Kumar Behera and Sabir Alli Khan were present.
