Report by Debadatta Panda, Bhawanipatna : More than 7thousands persons were found positive for malaria out of the 42 thousand patients test for the disease at different hospitals in Kalahandi district .
The worrying figure was released by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme unit at the district headquarter Bhawanipatna. The report complied from different Govt. slide testing centers of the Health Dept here. Of the total 7131 malaria positive cases were found to be positive for plasmoudium falciparum and 663 for plasmodium vivax, report says.
The report cited that the disease was endemic to the areas under Bhawanipatna Municipality,in Lanjigarh Block,Jaipatna Block and ThuamulRampur Block.Due to Lack of sanitation in differentareas,particularly in urban and in remote areas and water logging have been cited as major reasons behind the high number of malaria cases. Meanwhile, constant flow of patients to the medicine ward and paeditric ward in district head quarter Hosp at Bhawanipata as well as to patients flow is gradually increasing within July and August has led to over crowding and in several cases the patients are forced to sleep on the floor due to shortage of beds.
To manage the crowd,separate wards for men and women have been opened In the hospitals,the doctors said.Informing about the district administration”s preparedness, CDMO Dr.Brajakishore Brahma,Dist Malaria Officer Dr.Muralidhar Naik said municipality officials have been asked to take up cleaning drive and spray larvicide in the different affected pockets. Drug distribution in different primary health centers is in progress and more slides have been sent for testing. People have been advised to use mosquito nets and keep their surrounding clean, the doctors said.
