Bhubaneswar: The State Government has covered a total of 22,13,868 students under various scholarship in the ongoing academic year including 16,65,706 students covered under pre-matric scholarship programme and 5,48,162 under post-matric programme.
This has been known from a high level review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi in the Secretariat conference hall here on Saturday wherein Secretary to SC & ST Development Department Surendra Kumar outlined the issues for discussion.
Out of the total students covered under various scholarship programmes, around 11,56,963 belong to ST, 7,98,382 belong to SC and 2,58,523 belong to OBC category.
It was also revealed that disbursement of scholarships to SC, ST and OBC students have been made timely and transparent through introduction of centralized disbursal system on DBT mode.
The Scholarships are being disbursed directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts from State Treasury.
The Chief Secretary also directed the concerned department to expedite the work of Mega Tribal Education Complex at Berhampur, 14 Ekalabya Model Residential schools and 10 Kalinga Model Residential schools and make these new residential schools functional by 2018.
