Odisha: Ganjam Police registered cases against as many as 12 Surat returnees for fleeing from quarantine

Berhampur: The Ganjam district police on Tuesday registered cases against as many as 12 Surat returnees, who had escaped from a quarantine centre in the district.

On the basis of a complaint filed by the Kodala Tehsildar and Incident Commander, two cases were registered against the 12 accused under relevant sections of the IPC, said the Ganjam SP. The SP appealed to the Surat returnees to adhere to Covid-19 guidelines issued by the Government sincerely. Stringent action would be taken against the violators, he warned.

Notably, more than 100 migrants had reportedly escaped from two quarantine centres in Beguniapada block of the district on Sunday. But police managed to trace all of them and shifted them to the quarantine centres set up by the district administration. The State Government has mandated that returnees from other States would undergo 14days quarantine at the Temporary Medical Camps (TMCs).
