Balangir : Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik addressed MissionShakti Conclave at Patharchepa on the outskirts of Balangir town on Wednesday. Patnaik announced sanction of Rs 1 crore for construction of a Mission Shakti Bhavan at the district level.
“Today I have sanctioned Rs 1 crore for a Mission Shakti Bhavan here. Aapan mane Khusi Ta? (Are you happy with this announcement?),” Patnaik asked the women members who replied in the affirmative with thunderous applause. Earlier, Patnaik gave away work orders for construction of Mission Shakti buildings at Panchayat level.
Mission Shakti Director Sujata Karthikeyan gave in details about the steps taken by the State Government for upliftment of women through SHGs and other means. Two women SHG leaders, Bilasini Thakur and Chandani Kandhar, shared their struggle and success stories with the CM. They also told how mobile phones have reduced their hardship.
“We no longer visit to block office frequently to meet the BDO and other officials. Earlier we used to run to the block office several times to meet the officials. Many times they were absent. We had to come again which was really painstaking for us. With mobile phones, we are contacting the officials first, ascertaining their presence and then go to meet them. It has reduced our ordeal, besides enabling contact with others,” said a women leader.
For the first time in the history of Balangir, such a huge number of women SHG members did attend the meeting. They danced to the tune of songs and the enthusiasm among them was high.
