New Delhi: Climate change is a global phenomenon. It’s devastating consequences can already be felt across the globe. Many scientists believe that Global warming, natural calamities and rising sea level are gradually escalating due to climate change. Global warming isn’t a prediction. It is happening.
With an aim to provide a platform for discussions, brain storming with the help of national and international experts and initiating need based policy drives, Odia Samaj is organising a Roundtable Discussion titled ‘Climate Change and Odisha’ at India International Centre in New Delhi on 26th Sept 2017. Senior experts and policy advisors from institutions like IIT, World Bank, TERI and Oxford Policy Management shall be speaking on this occasion.
The Speakers would focus topics like, Response to climate change in Odisha-the strategic roadmap; Ways to change with changing climate; Climate change impacts and vulnerability assessment; Climate change action plan and policies: Odisha.
Mr Charudutta Panigrahi would give the opening address and Mr. Siddhartha Pradhan, President Odia Samaj shall address the first Roundtable of Odia Samaj and would elaborate on the roadmap for the policy initiatives to be taken up by the Odia Samaj and the desired outcomes with the help of the governments and the civil society. Mr Hiranya Mohanty would sum up the discussions and provide the elements of the discussions for subsequent follow ups.
It may be noted that Odia Samaj, the leading non-profit, socio-cultural organisation which has recently organized Odisha Parba at New Delhi, is emerging as an effective and neutral think tank, concerning primarily Odisha’s developmental priorities. Odia Samaj is devoting a significant portion of its activities to public policy advocacy which would include identifying policy issues, evaluating ideas, and helping the stakeholders in designing public policies.
You would be happy to know that while Odia Samaj is evolving to be an action-oriented think-tank, it is fast emerging as an organisation where research and policy would meet, with Public Policy & Governance (PPG) being a dedicated vertical in Odia Samaj.
