Bhubaneswar: National Commission for Scheduled Tribes directs Odisha DGP to conduct an impartial probe into the alleged rape and murder of a tribal girl in Kotpad block of Koraput district & submit action taken report within 15 days.
Notably, on July 21, the girl had been found hanging from a tree near Bagchuan village under Chitra panchayat in the Kotpad area. Alleging rape and murder of the girl, her family members lodged an FIR with the local police. But the girl’s postmortem report later showed she died due to suicide.
A few days back, BJP State vice-president Sukeshi Oram and BJP ST Morcha National vice-president, Kaliram Manjhi moved the NCST seeking its intervention into the matter.
In their petition, the BJP leaders demanded that the postmortem report be made public and an FIR be registered. Alleging manipulation in the case, they also demanded booking the case under the SC and ST (POA) Act and POCSO Act against the district authorities and concerned police and health officials.
