Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: The National commission for scheduled castes member Dr Yogendra Paswan on Thursday visited Tentoi village under Naugaon block studying the reality where a Dalit girl had committed suicide after her obscene photos had flied viral in social media by a local youth.
After meeting the deceased kin hon,ble commission member Dr Paswan expressed his profound anguish over the police probe into the incident, if timely police action had been taken the deceased can be prevented committing suicide., acting on the incongruity commission member directed police to reinvestigate the case at fresh and furnish the probe report to commission within seven days, Dr Paswan informed media persons in Naugaon.
I have been saddened knowing pitiable conditions of the deceased family being belong to a Dalit community has been denied justice, civil and police administration has failed acting promptly to redress their grievances, even police have failed justify lodging case accordingly in FIR stated by deceased family moreover several sections of IPC and [PoA] Act have not been followed registering the case against the alleged accused, so we direct concern police station rectify the anomaly reported in case and expedite the investigation, Hon,ble member instructed.
Notable informing that the Dalit girl took extreme step ending her life after a youth Deepak Kumar Behura raped her taking advantage when no family member were present in house and later the alleged youth posted few obscene photos in social media and stuck few nude photos in village, bearing social defame the sickened girl committed suicide on 7 November.
Soon after the incident deceased family had approached Naugaon police station and lodged an FIR against the alleged youth Behura, police registered a case against the youth under sections 306/ 292/ [3] and [2] of IPC but ignored booking the youth violating Sc/ST [POA] Act.
Strangely the deceased father had been attacked by the accused when he had gone to him enquiring the incident on 8 November, police had been intimated by the incident but police ignored the complaint, deceased mother Sakuli Das revealed before hon,ble commission. Moreover she confirmed receiving Rs 1 lakh from district administration towards the monetary compensation for loss of her daughter on 22 November.
Meanwhile district police informed that the alleged accused Behura has been arrested and forwarded to court, Sc/St [PoA] Act has been invoked against the youth and the probe is underway, informed police.
Furthermore considering miserable condition of the deceased family , collector has been directed giving 4 decimal land and a house under PMAY scheme to deceased family
During commission visit collector was enquired implementation of his earlier instruction but found no land has been given to family, acting on the discrepancy collector was suspended a Revenue Inspector who had been assigned to clear a land in favour of the family, the visiting commission member was accompanied by collector S K Mohapatra, SP Prakash R, Dalit Bikash Parishad president Shankar Das and many Dalit leaders across Jagatsinghpur district.
