Bhubaneswar: International Day of persons with disabilities is observed on 3rd December with an aim to promote awareness on disability issues and to integrate Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) into the mainstream of the society. Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) organises a series of events on this occasion.
For the first time in Odisha to encourage sports talents of the differently abled
students/children from all Districts of Odisha, SSEPD Department has organised a State level Para Sports Meet today at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar in which the winners of the District level competitions have participated.
At District level the Para Sports Meet was conducted in six disability categories
segregating them into four groups (Junior & Senior Group for both boys & girls). The State level Meet was organised only for senior group in six categories viz. Tricycle race for Locomotor Impairment, Shut Put Throw for Hearing Impairment, Wheel Chair race for Cerebral Palsy and Hit Throw for Autism Spectrum Disorder. Around 360 differently abled winners from all the districts of the State have participated in the Meet.
Sri Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister, SSEPD, Science & Technology, Public Enterprises inaugurated the function and flagged off the State level Meet in presence of Sri Bhasker Jyoti Sarma, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, SSEPD Department and Smt. Bratati Harichandan, Director of the Department.
The winners in each of these sports events were awarded by Commissioner-cum-Secretary Sri Sarma through presentation of certificates, trophies and cash prizes. The function ended with cultural programmes.
