Report by Basant Rath; Bhubaneswar: Nabarngpur MP Balabhadra Majhi on Thursday quit the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), barely a month ahead of the 2019 elections. Majhi tendered his resignation letter before the secretary of BJD supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas this morning.
In his resignation letter, Majhi said that he was cheated and was “no more required in the party”. “I am sure some people have misled you. Now I feel cheated, as before last General Election, I was lured into the Party to stand for Lok Sabha. I had sacrificed about 7 years of service and resigned from my post for public service. Now I presume I am no more required in the Party,” Majhi said in his resignation letter. In the letter, Majhi also enlisted the major development in varioussectors in the Nabarangpur Parliamentary Constituency during five years of his tenure.
In 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Majhi defeated Congress heavyweight Pradeep Majhi in Nabarangpur Parliamentary constituency. A woman candidate is likely to be fielded from Nabarangpur seat, sources said. However, it was not known to which party Majhi will go.
