Bhubaneswar: ICAR-CIWA organized a Farmers-Scientist Interface on 17 March, 2018 to facilitate the live webcast of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s address in Krishi Unnati Mela 2018. In his address, he underlined the emerging role of India in sustaining Global Agriculture. He stressed upon technological advancement in agriculture for enhanced productivity, economic prosperity with the mission of Doubling Farmer’s income by 2022. Around 600 farmers and farmwomen from Puri, Kendrapada, Khordha, Nayagarh and Cuttack districts participated in the event. The programme was graced by Hon’ble Mayor, BMC, Shri A. N. Jena as the Chief Guest. He highlighted the significance of Agriculture in livelihood enhancement of rural families and its contribution to Indian economy. Shri Harekrishna Nayak, Corporator, Ward No. 22 was the Guest of Honour. At the outset of the programme, the Director ICAR-CIWA, Dr. S. K. Srivastava welcomed all the delegates, farmer participants and emphasized the contribution of the Institute in addressing gender issues in agriculture for ensuring livelihood and nutritional securities of rural women. At this event, the farmers and farm women were exposed to several latest farm technologies through Demonstration Mela cum Exhibition Stalls. A farmer-Scientist Interface was also organized in which various farming related queries raised by the farmers and farm women were answered by a panel of experts from ICAR-CIWA. The event also provided a platform for successful women entrepreneurs to share their experiences in farming. Innovative women farmers in field of pulse production, kitchen gardening, poultry rearing, mushroom cultivation and dairy farming were also honoured with certificates and award kits. The day ended with a formal vote of thanks. The event was successfully co-ordinated by Dr. Anil Kumar as the Nodal Officer for the programme.
