Bhubaneswar: In a joint eviction drive today as per the Central Eviction Coordination Committee (CEMC) programme, the enforcement team consisting officers and staff of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Commissionerate Police removed encroachments along Drainage Channel No. 5 in Kharvel Nagar.
The eviction was carried out from Gurudwar to Biscuit Factory Square, i.e. back side of Sriya Cine Complex under Kharvel Nagar Police Station. Two excavators were deployed for the purpose. One platoon of gents APR force and one section of lady police force were present at site to maintain law and order during the drive. Three enforcement squads BDA, BMC and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) were present. The operation started at 10.30 am and continued till 2 pm.
During the eviction drive 17 numbers of cabins, four number of polythene sheds, six number of trolley rickshaw, near about 25 feet boundary wall of the biscuit factory and also removed barricades of about 100 feet long on both the sides of the drainage channel.
Zonal deputy commissioner (South East) Binay Kumar Dash, BDA Enforcement Officer-II Pramod Kumar Patro, General Manager BSCL Bijay Kumar Swain, Liaison Officer, BDA, Sri Subhransu Sekhar Mohanty and IIC, Kharvel Nagar P.S. Gyanendra Kumar Sahoo were present.
NEAR SALIA SAHI
In another joint eviction programme, carried out by BDA and BMC for eviction of unauthorised structures over drain and road side government land at Salia Sahi, Maila Tanki Square near Jayadev Vihar, six asbestos roof houses and another structure were demolished by using one excavator without police. The requisition was given by BMC along Drainage Channel No. 4.
With the drainage issue remaining a major headache for the civic administration during the monsoon season and at times, local rains becoming intense and severe, the “Zero tolerance police’’ over drain encroachment is being implemented across the city with the CEMC and the joint enforcement teams.
It can be mentioned here that Municipal Commissioner and Vice-Chairman BDA Dr. Krishan Kumar on August 1 had a visit to the entire area along the Drainage Channel No. 5, from its point of origin in Kharvel Nagar till its confluence with Gangua, and had instructed the officials to take up immediate measures to ensure smooth flow of rainwater in the channel.
