By Dhirendra Sahoo, Jajpur: Jajpur is the new hotspot with 36 positive cases till Thursday night after Khordha District. The three Northern Districts close to West Bengal emerge as COVID-19 hotspots in Odisha.
The positive cases continue to rise in Jajpur, the coastal district seems to be the current hotspot of the deadly virus in Odisha. 17 more new persons were tested positive in a single day, which belongs to the previous contentment zone. All the positive cases have been reported from Katikata resident area of Dasarathpur block, Jajpur district, the new hotspot of the State with 36 positive cases placed the second position after Khordha district, which is 47 out of total 142 positive cases, the State Health & Family Welfare Department said on Thursday. The returnees from West Bengal contributing majorly to the surge. The main cause of serious concern and danger for Odisha is the link of West Bengal, where 74 COVID-19 positive cases are directly linked to it. The three northern districts have recorded 74 cases, including 19 from Bhadrak and 19 from Balasore and 36 from Jajpur.
All 17 asymptomatic cases belong to Katikata resident area, which is the contentment zone and the contact tracing and follow-up action is done. The area houses 269 families are there from which 200 samples have already collected for testing said by I & PR Department secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh.
The government is worried as one-third of the total number of affected people had returned from the neighboring State. Odisha on Thursday touched the 142 Covid-19 case mark with With the death of one patient and recovery of 39 persons so far, the number of active cases stands at 102 in Odisha.
Despite widespread awareness campaigns, 60 hours shutdown, areas with contentment zone and repeated requests from the Odisha government as well as local administration, some returnees have been found hiding and unwilling for tests. The 60-hour shutdown in the three northern Odisha districts from the date 24 to 26 to intensify contact tracing of previous cases is a bigger challenge but the cases are increasing day by day.
In other side Telemedicine services have started all the district to consult doctors over WhatsApp voice and video calls. The State Government has doing online training at SCBMCH Cuttack to 97 microbiologists and virologists to strengthen lab diagnosis of Covid-19. There is a week-long training for nurses engaged in critical care unit end today.
