International seminar on “Academic-Industry Collaboration: Towards Bridging Skill Gap in Tourism Sector”, 22nd to 24th February 2019 at IITTM, Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The inaugural ceremony of the three day international seminar on “Academic-Industry Collaboration: Towards Bridging Skill Gap in Tourism Sector “was organized today by Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) Bhubaneshwar ,an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, at its Dumuduma campus. Hon’ble Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Ashok Chandra Panda inaugurated this seminar in the presence of other dignitaries. Shri Panda said that the seminar provides an ideal opportunity to reflect collectively on the current youth employment situation in India, the progress that we have made in implementing practical programs, strategies and policies to empower the youth of this State and how to participate more meaningfully in the economic development of the country.Willem Rooze,Ex-Director, Martin Air, Switzerland, Ex-Operation Manager, Travix, Netherland, Expert, Startups, Tourism Business(India) in his key-note address highlighted the necessity of global quality standards in the tourism industry and the ability to access global opportunities of exchange depends on how well-equipped educationally, professionally and skill-wise the workers are to take advantage of new opportunities.Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Govt., Dept. of Tourism, Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of Odisha, said that every individual possesses unique skills. The requirement is to develop a mechanism to identify that skill. Skill building could also be seen as an instrument to empower the individual and improve their social acceptance.He lauded the efforts of IITTM in this direction.Prof.Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, Vice Chancellor, Utkal University spoke about developing innovative learning environments to facilitate skill development at all levels. Prof.Sandeep Kulshrestha, Director, IITTM described the consistent efforts of IITTM towards skill development in the tourism industry with far-reaching consequences . Dr.S.K.Lenka, Nodal Officer,IITTM in his welcome address emphasized the pertinence of the subject and its significance in the present tourism industry. Dr.Md.Sabir Hussain, Secrtary of the conference extended the vote of thanks.
